Facility Fund

Our Facility Fund is dedicated to the upkeep and preservation of Butte Humane Society’s state-of-the-art shelter, ensuring it remains as a vital resource for the community and a safe haven for animals for generations to come.

In 2021, we celebrated a major achievement with the opening of our newly constructed, 25,000-square-foot facility on 5 acres in North Chico. Before its construction, we operated out of three separate locations across Chico, each with its own challenges that limited our capacity and efficiency. Our previous Dog Adoption Center, located in a rented city building, was restricted to serving only city animals and could house just 29 dogs—far fewer than the 55 dogs our new facility accommodates. Our Cat Adoption Center, Veterinary Clinic, and administrative offices were miles apart, creating logistical challenges for animal transport, communication, and daily operations.

While our new, consolidated facility enables us to serve more animals and streamline our operations, it also brings a substantial increase in operating expenses. The expenses for utilities, infrastructure, property taxes, and essential building maintenance and repairs alone exceed $22,000 each month. These heightened costs are necessary to maintain a safe, welcoming, and fully functional environment for the animals, staff, and visitors; however, they add a significant financial burden. Contributions to the Facility Fund will help us preserve this “forever home” for Butte Humane Society, ensuring it remains a cornerstone of our mission to save lives and provide compassionate care to animals in need.
